We have Youth work based job opportunities available, from time to time, in the wider Wellington region. These positions promise to be challenging and rewarding. Any such positions will be posted here when available, but if you interested in getting into youth work, give us a call because we'd love to catch up with you and discuss the possibilities.
Youth work positions can vary from part time to full time, and any number of hours inbetween. Some examples of job opportunities follow below.
Intern
An Intern is generally someone who is just beginning their journey in youth ministry. Churches can organise an internship which is similar to a commercial apprenticeship. The church pays part or all of the interns training fees, and the intern works under supervision for the church.
Another variation of this would be if a church hired a student currently studying a certificate in youth work (through praxis for example)
Chaplain
A chaplain is a faith based support worker who operates within a institution, which could range from a hospital, to a university. Currently the Anglican church supports Chaplains at both Victoria and Massey University.
A university Chaplains job might include, supporting students, organising bible studies, connecting with other christian programs, and enhancing the faith of students attending the university.
A Chaplain in usually someone who has a few years of experience in youth work.
Youth Worker
Youth workers are usually employed by a church or community organisation, to develop a community for young people where they can feel safe and supported with the intention of equipping the young people to develop resilience and attain their full potential in life.
Youth work positions range from part time (less than 20 hours a week) to full time (40 hours a week), and their salary can vary just as much. For more information on Youth work salaries within the Anglican church refer to the pay scale link on the right hand side of the page.
Senior Youth Work Position
A senior youth work position differs from a youth work position in the level of management skills that it requires. Senior youth work positions require the youth worker to co-ordinate other people in ministry and often involve planning events, training, and support for large numbers of people.
an example of a senior youth work position would be the Diocesan Youth Co-ordinator Chris Casey.
